Let me get right to the point: my data has been stolen online.
Yes, it even happened to me, someone who works on digital security every day. It happened when I bought tickets for a festival through an online shop. Digital misfortune sometimes happens in unexpected places, shall we say. I am not the only one. Indeed, everyone with an online presence - business or personal - has probably had their data stolen at some point. Through Dropbox, LinkedIn, Adobe, an online newspaper or trade magazine account or through a digital form at a car garage. Wherever security is not properly in place, things can just go wrong. Large companies, small businesses, individuals - everyone's data is of interest to cybercriminals. Tense? Maybe. But know this: you can arm yourself against it!
During Cooperative Day on 11 December, I will present a workshop on this topic together with our partner Passguard. It's important because data theft and resale have become serious business. You cannot always prevent your data from ending up on the darkweb. But you can treat it as a serious risk. How you do that? I will be happy to explain during Cooperative Day. Just a tip for the coming months: switch to two-step verification for your online accounts. You can set this up easily via your online profile. With two-step verification, you log in with two keys, for example a password and an app. Has your password been stolen? Then the digital thief still faces another closed door.
